Crich Tramway Village Derbyshire

http://www.tramway.co.uk/
I don't really know why I'd never visited the Tramway Village before - I'd certainly been passed it often enough. I think I thought it was just for children.
However, a quick look on their web page showed there were Special Events - including an Edwardian Weekend, which sounded rather fun.
It really is the most amazing place - much bigger than I thought, and with everyone dressed up really added to the atmosphere.

Then I saw in the programme that the Suffragettes were going to hold a rally prior to marching down the streets in a demonstation - clearly an event not to be missed!

We were told that it was 1908 in the village of Crich and it was good stirring stuff, before all the females, costumed and visitors marched off down the wonderfully reconstructed high street.
Then after much shouting of "Give Women Votes" and similar slogans, plus heckling from the males in the crowd, all the females sat down in the road and stopped the trams!

Having seen this policeman and his dog earlier, it didn't seem too dangerous an occupation!

But then the heavies moved in and it gave an idea of what it really must have been like for these brave and intrepid women.

And now a final picture from this amazing Edwardian Weekend, when people had gone to so much trouble.
